Vanessa sang purple rain at my wedding. No music.
At her wedding, she came out to Baby, I'm a Star.
...Prince has always been the soundtrack to our own senses of royalty. I'm guessing that's true for you too.
Even still, I always - somehow - held on to him as a very personal, almost private North Star. A blueprint for my own creative courage, a model of joy that didn't follow saccharine standards. When you grow up on Spruce Street in Wichita, Kansas you need examples of righteous rebellion, alternative ideas of sex, love, passion, heart, hurt, redemption and salvation ...Prince was some kind of Divine Light. ...and made me feel like I could always connect to something bigger than my little old self to say and do something exciting, new, untested, unapproved. He was brave, confident and brimming with the best of humanity.
Prince turned struggle into song, a miracle always.
Thank you so much. I will miss you so much.
